Back in the good old days of 2022 we started selling caps and gowns made in the USA. It was an easy decision because I didn’t want to do business with China. I didn’t want to support the ongoing cruelty of the Chinese government toward its own people.
So for four years, we’ve been selling the only USA-made caps and gowns on the market. The quality is good, and it’s great to be supporting domestic manufacturing. But the company that creates these USA-Made gowns has increased our price 110% over the course of 2 years. To be clear, that’s not a ten percent increase. It’s a more-than-double-the-cost increase.
That put us in the uncomfortable position of raising our prices. We’re a small business and we can’t just “eat” $100k of extra expense every year. But we also know our customers are often on tight budgets. Homeschooling often means single income households with many mouths to feed.
So we’ve been working toward a “third way” – an affordable cap and gown that doesn’t come through China’s slave-driven textile industry. And that’s exactly what we’ve created with our new “Honorably-Sourced” cap and gown line.
These gowns begin their journey in Taiwan for weaving and dyeing, and then travel to the Dominican Republic for sewing. The result is a beautiful cap and gown that doesn’t come with a hidden price tag.
This year, we’re offering these cap and gowns in Black, Navy, and Royal – our most popular colors. Our other colors (Red, Green, Maroon, Purple, and White) will still be available from our USA-Made supplier. We hope to shift more of these colors to the “Honorably-Sourced” line over the next few years.
If you have questions about this change, please reach out! We would love to send you a sample of our new product or answer any questions. We’ll post photos of the new caps and gowns as soon as we receive our first shipment.
